Software teams struggle to ship and troubleshoot customer SSO

Software vendors find customer SSO integrations difficult to implement and debug because identity providers and configurations vary, and it can be unclear whether the customer or vendor is at fault. Developers also encounter SSO redirect problems when completing logins from remote machines. Existing documentation and manual troubleshooting can be slow and tedious.

For B2B software engineers and support teams. Mentioned from Dec 2024 to Feb 2026 on GitHub and Hacker News.

  1. Nah, SSO is a huge pain in the ass, and the variation in identity providers doesn't make it worth it. Everyone thinks they can write foolproof docs but either they're so slow that you lose the market, or they can't actually do it
  2. It's complex, there are many knobs to fiddle with and it can be tedious to figure out if the customer (via configuration, or their identity provider itself) or the vendor are at fault for an issue
