Developers struggle to move app events and data between systems

Developers and self-hosting users want app events or data to reach local apps and other services, but the available integration surfaces are often missing or restrictive: requests include localhost alert delivery, non-Google push notifications, event streaming, and a REST API. The needs share an interoperability problem, but each depends on the source app exposing the relevant data or event in the first place, so a generic bridge cannot solve every case.

For developers integrating streaming, self-hosted, and indie apps. Mentioned from Aug 2021 to May 2025 on GitHub and Hacker News.

  1. Avoid the requirement for apps to need a cloud based server and be truly a standalone PC app. 1) Provide a way of getting alerts on localhost servers (aka nodejs)
  2. I recently moved to use the f-droid version and didn't notice after a few days that I lost all my notifications, I think for now I will sadly need to go back to Google Play
