Developers struggle to inspect and diagram existing database schemas

As databases grow, developers spend time copying schema details by hand and struggle to turn existing databases into useful diagrams. Some diagram workflows require manual input or omit features such as views, while users specifically ask for SQL import and live database connections. The result is tedious schema inspection and documentation, especially when there are many tables and relationships.

For database developers and application developers. Mentioned from Nov 2017 to Apr 2025 on GitHub, Hacker News and Stack Exchange.

  1. There are about 40 tables and 2k columns currently, and I am managing all of these manually, with a lot of hand writing and copying & pasting. Which is slow and very error prone in my opinion, and I guess there will be more tables in the future
