People lose time finding files across folders and project scopes

Developers and other power users struggle to find files across large or deeply nested folders. Built-in search can be slow or hard to trust, mix filename and content matches, or lack useful ways to narrow the search; editor explorers also make it tedious to jump to files or find file and folder references. People resort to shell commands, visual browsing, or repeatedly typing folder filters.

For developers and power users managing many local files. Mentioned from Dec 2015 to Sep 2026 on Bluesky, product forums, GitHub, Hacker News and Stack Exchange.

  1. Before I try to get it to run in WINE, is there an Ubuntu/Linux native equivalent of this program? I know and use the find command. It works fine for small folders, but the nice thing about Everything is because it uses an index, all searches are instantaneous even if you search all folders from the root

  2. obviously there are folders there with files in them, but finding them using the built in tools is a huge pain in the ass and it's impossible to be confident you actually searched them all
