Brand-name screening is costly and fragmented across trademark offices
People choosing brand names and trademark professionals need to find similar registered marks, not just exact matches. The evidence describes country-by-country searches as tedious, similarity ranking as missing from some options, and commercial searches as costing thousands of dollars per name; image and sound marks add further complexity.
For founders and trademark professionals screening brand names. Mentioned from Jan 2024 to Aug 2026 on Hacker News and Stack Exchange.

Commercial tools do this type of search, but it's not automated and very expensive ($3-6k per name), and they do not rank the results by similarity
Have to do a search in each country's trade mark office. It's very tedious (not every mark is in text, some are pictures, sounds)
